Raksha Bandhan, a festival celebrated on the full moon day of Shravan Month, is a joyous tradition for siblings. On August 9th 2025, Sisters tie a Rakhi on their Brothers’ wrists, promising protection throughout their lives. This tradition has numerous stories in society associated with it, highlighting the bond between siblings and the promise of protection.

Story of Bhavishya Puran
There are many stories behind this festival, where is one of them story is related to Indradev and his wife Shanchi! It is believed that this festival started from ancient times when the Asuras waged war against the Gods. After fighting the war for 12 years, the Asuras defeated the Gods and captured the three worlds. After this, Devraj Indra goes to Jupiter, the Guru of the Gods, asks for advice to get his kingdom again. Jupiter Devraj asks Indra to perform Raksha Vidhan with chanting. On the full moon day of Shravan month, Guru Jupiter starts Raksha Vidhan Sanskar. Raksha bundle is strengthened from chanting during this defense legislation. After the puja, this bundle was tied by Devraj Indra’s wife Shachi on the right hand of Devraj Indra. With its strength, Devraj Indra is able to get his kingdom again by defeating the Asuras.
Story of Krishna and Draupadi
According to mythological beliefs, Shri Krishna ji’s index finger was cut during the war with Shishupala in Mahabharata. On seeing this, Draupadi rushed to Krishna ji and tore a piece of her sari and tied a bandage on her finger. On this day there was Shravan Purnima. In return, Krishna ji protected Draupadi at the time of rip.

Story of Lakshmi and Raja Bali
The story revolves around Lord Vishnu’s Vamana avatar, who asks for a three-step donation from the Asura king. Danveer Bali agrees, and upon measuring the earth, he realizes that this Vamana is Lord Vishnu himself. Bali bowed to god Vishnu with Vinay and presented his head for the next step. Lord Vishnu is pleased with Bali and asks for a boon, which Asura Raj Bali requests. However, Lord Vishnu gets caught in his own boon. Goddess Lakshmi, following Narada Muni’s advice, gives Lord Vishnu a rakhi as a gift.
Over time, the recognition and importance of this festival changed and they started celebrating between siblings. Kids are very excited on this festival.
